TikTok lets you follow accounts you enjoy, but tastes change! If a creator’s content isn’t your cup of tea anymore, unfollowing them is an option. Good to know: wondering who unfollowed you on Instagram? Check out our post for some useful tools.

How Do I Unfollow on TikTok?

TikTok has a different Following feed, which groups videos from accounts you follow on the app. TikTok also takes cues from your choice in following to display videos you may be interested in the For You feed, so curating your list of accounts that you follow is important. Follow these steps to unfollow on TikTok.

From the User’s Profile Page

To start unfollowing people on TikTok, go to your Following feed. Open the app, and tap on Following at the top. If you’re on a PC, you’ll find the Following section in the menu on the left.

Swipe until you find a video from the account you want to unfollow. Alternatively, if you remember the account’s name, use the search function at the top to look for it.

From Your Following List

If you want to unfollow accounts in bulk, open TikTok on your phone, and press the Profile tab at the bottom. If you’re browsing TikTok from your PC in your browser, click your profile picture in the upper-right corner, and select View profile.

If you pressed the button by mistake, it’s easy to press the Follow button again to remedy the situation.

Note: this is a good option to try if you’re looking to remove all your followers and start fresh. However, if you have a large list, try to abstain from unfollowing more than 200 people/per day, as TikTok could consider this suspicious behavior. As an alternative, try creating a new TikTok account if you want a clean slate.

How to Remove a TikTok Follower From Your Account

At this point, you may be wondering whether it works the other way around as well: can you also remove TikTok followers from your account? The answer is yes.

Go to your TikTok profile page, and instead of tapping on Following, tap on Followers. You’ll see a list of people that follow you. If you also follow them back, these are marked as Friends on TikTok.

If someone follows you, but you don’t follow them back, TikTok will show a Follow back button. If you don’t want to have these accounts following you on TikTok, you can remove them.

Tap the three dots next to the account you want to remove, and select Remove this follower from the menu at the bottom. This will remove that account from your list of Followers. Your account will disappear from the other person’s Following list.

If you’re Friends on TikTok, you’ll need to switch to the Following section, and unfollow the person from there as well so that you can “sever” the connection between the two accounts. If you haven’t followed them back, simply removing them from Followers should do the trick.

Keep in mind that even if you can manually remove followers from your TikTok list, they can still search for you on the app and follow you again. If you really don’t want to interact with them again, unfollowing on TikTok won’t be enough. Instead, we suggest that you block these accounts on TikTok. If they are exhibiting harassing behavior, you can Report them instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when I unfollow on TikTok?

When you unfollow someone on TikTok, you won’t see their videos appear in your Following feed app anymore. However, clips from that account may still make their way from time to time to your For You feed. Also note that even if you unfollowed that particular account, you can still find it by using the Search function in the TikTok app. Unfollowing an account won’t delete any comments you have left on their clips in the past, unless you go back and manually remove them.

Does TikTok notify users when you unfollow them?

While TikTok notifies you when you get a new follower, it won’t send out notifications if you unfollowed them, so you can do so safely.

Is unfollowing the same as blocking a TikTok user?

Unfollowing is not the same as blocking a TikTok user. Blocking hides content from that specific account. They also won’t be able to message or leave comments on your clips on the app. Blocking automatically removes them from your Following and Followers list, as well as theirs. Overall, blocking someone will unfollow them on TikTok and will also restrict any interactions with them from that point on.
